Position Summary
As a Paraeducator/Behavior Technician in Special Education, you will support elementary students with academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and classroom needs. You will work closely with teachers and special education staff to provide individualized and small-group instructional support, reinforce classroom expectations, and help students make meaningful progress. This role also includes assisting with classroom activities, student supervision, data collection, and implementation of student support plans.

Key Duties

• Support students with academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development through individual and small-group instruction and classroom activities.
• Assist teachers with instructional materials, grading, attendance, classroom organization, and other daily classroom needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, counselors, administrators, families, and other personnel to support student needs and educational plans, including IEPs.
• Monitor student progress and assist with data collection related to academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals.
• Supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, field trips, passing periods, and other school activities; provide close supervision for students who may leave designated areas.
• Assist students who are injured or ill and provide support with delegated health-care-related duties as appropriate.
• Cover classrooms for short periods, up to 30 minutes, when teachers are called away.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Experience working with children.

Licenses & Certifications

• No specific state license or certification listed.
• Completion and submission of the BVSD online application is required.

Skills

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading, writing, and speaking.
• Positive communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and staff.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and support students with varying academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting with student care, and safely maintaining close proximity to students when necessary.
