Job Description

Therapeutic Aides

RCM Health Care Services is seeking dedicated therapeutic and non-therapeutic aides to work in Baltimore City Schools, assisting students in a supportive and structured learning environment.

Therapeutic Aide Position Overview:

  • Non-Therapeutic Aide: Supports students by helping them stay focused on academic tasks and assists with transitions, toileting, and changing as needed.
  • Therapeutic Aide: In addition to the duties of a Non-Therapeutic Aide, provides behavioral support by assisting with the implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Helps students meet academic goals outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Therapeutic Aide Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in achieving academic success, particularly those displaying disruptive behavior, using behavior management techniques and physical intervention if necessary (training provided upon hire).
  • Provide personal care and ensure the health and safety of students, including assisting with clothing, snack time, and toileting activities when required.
  • Facilitate social integration and assist in maintaining a positive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, related service staff, behavior supervisors, and other team members.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through appearance, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Assist with transportation needs, including bus support.
  • Offer support in classroom organization, management, and instructional strategies.
  • Monitor student behavior and provide redirection when needed.
  • Collect data and share observations with teachers for student assessment.
  • Assist in standardized testing procedures according to state and local guidelines.
  • Distribute supplies, materials, and technology as necessary.
  • Supervise student movement within the school to ensure safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in classrooms and cafeterias.
  • Facilitate safe transitions between locations within the school.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate proactively with teachers and parents about student issues and progress.
  • Attend work regularly and be available to work on-site during standard business hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administrators or their representatives.

Therapeutic Aide Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to assist in restraining students when appropriate, following district or school procedures.
  • Ability to lift and carry classroom supplies and equipment.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
  • Visual ability to read materials and observe students.
  • Dexterity to operate equipment and perform job functions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and sit for extended periods.

Therapeutic Aide Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older with at least a high school diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Standard English.
  • Ability to follow directions from teachers and principals.
  • Must be willing to undergo fingerprinting.
  • Participation in and successful completion of CPI training is required.
  • Demonstrate emotional maturity and a sympathetic attitude toward working with children with disabilities.
  • Must complete a minimum of 20 hours of training provided by RCM, including behavior management strategies and classroom procedures.

Therapeutic Aide Compensation:

  • $15 – $22/hr.
