Mammography Technologist (10hr Shifts available)
Position Summary: Provide mammography services to patients in accordance with physicians’ orders. Responsible for preparing mammography rooms and diagnostic equipment while performing high quality testing, operating equipment according to prescribed safety standards, and developing films. Responsible for exercising own professional judgment and upholding medical ethics in performance of diagnostic services. Must be able to have knowledge of and apply principles of growth and development to identify requirements relative to age specific patients. This position requires adherence to patient confidentiality.
Essential Job functions:
- Assumes responsibility for patient safety by utilizing the proper exposure and protective measures.
- Educates and explains procedures to patient. Modifies approach based on needs and developmental level of patient
- Follows appropriate departmental protocol for procedures unless otherwise specified by the Radiologist
- Obtains and documents patient history and pertinent information. Assesses patient for potential risk factors
- Insures proper identification of patient and patient demographics in PACS.
- Clarifies and follows Doctor’s orders.
- Produces quality mammography images for interpretation.
- Responds effectively in an emergency situation.
- Adheres to infection control standards specific to patient care.
- Completes work within an acceptable time frame.
- Prioritizes and organizes work assignments and adjusts priorities, based on changing business situations.
- Promotes/maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
- Consults and communicates with other departments in a professional manner.
- Demonstrates an understanding of safety, health and morale needs of customers and co-workers.
- Plans delivery of care according to patient activity and staff competencies.
- Operates medical imaging equipment properly and safely.
- Demonstrates awareness of Radiation Safety Procedures for self and others.
- Ensures equipment is in acceptable conditions by conducting routine quality control checks.
- Follows department standards for reporting equipment malfunctions or problems.
- Follows regulatory guidelines and performs QA/QC as mandated by ACR/ MQSA.
- Follows mammography procedures for needle localizations and stereo tactic biopsies.
- Selects and prepares proper equipment and supplies.
- Inputs all data within Magview women’s tracking software.
- Processes self-pay patients according to departmental procedure.
- Cancels & reschedules patient appointments, as needed.
General Job functions:
- Provides leadership and support for the department; serves as a Consistently Exceeds Expectations and consultant to staff, assists in interpreting policies and procedures for staff.
- Oversees all Mammography Departmental functions.
- Oversees daily Quality Control and Quality Assurance for the department.
- Acts as liaison between the manager and the patients.
- Ensures full utilization of the Mammography department.
- Demonstrates the ability to make decisions, delegates and assures the welfare of the patients and staff.
- Manages technical staff to provide adequate department coverage within approved department budget.
- Accepts accountability for managing department protocols as well as ensures all staff is aware of any new protocols established.
- Maintains equipment records and makes recommendations for replacement of outdated or poorly functioning equipment.
- Assists Manager in evaluating technical staff bi-annually using the SMG “topgrading” process.
- Accepts responsibility and supervision with ACR accreditation / and annual MQSA inspection.
- Replenishes and changes supplies in assigned area as needed.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Pushing and pulling, taking frequency and weight into consideration.
- Physical strength to lift heavy objects, carts, or items, taking frequency and weight into consideration.
- Physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account.
- Physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers.
- Balance is maintained during climbing, bending and/or reaching
- Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking).
Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
- Diploma from a Vocational/Technical school required.
- BLS certification required.
- 0 – 1 years experience. 2-4 years experience preferred.
- ARRT certificate and Mammography license required.
- Licensed through OBMI
- ACR Accreditation (American College of Radiology) required.
- Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Experience as an X-Ray processor preferred.
- Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills.
- Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) preferred.
- Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment preferred.
