Director of Nursing Services
Salary Range:

$180,000/Yr. to $210,000/Yr. DOE

POSITION SUMMARY
This is a salaried, exempt managerial position that makes decisions and has access to confidential labor relations information.   Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer this position has responsibility for managing day to day operations of Nursing Services related to regulatory requirements, supervision of Nurse Managers, RN Supervisors, Clinical Education, staffing office, and per diem nurses,.  Participates in the planning, implementing and evaluation of services provided by the Nursing Department insuring quality cost-effective care for all residents in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements. 

JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Understands and promotes Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures and everyday practices. 
  • Provides  direct supervision to Nurse Managers, RN Supervisors, and all per diem nursing staff
  • Provides oversight to the Manager of Staffing and Scheduling office to assure staffing meets requirements and is “spread” across the Neighborhoods for the benefit of resident care.
  • Direct the collection of data from multiple sources needed to evaluate the practice of Nursing and develop strategies to use the data to improve practice and assure standards of care are met.
  • Promotes employee engagement by acting as a catalyst for change, listening to the staff, and addressing concerns that require additional support or modification. Involves employees in decision making as appropriate.
  • Establishes a program to monitor and effectively evaluate and improve documentation, compliance to New York State Department of Health of rules and regulations including but not limited to, care planning, MDS, investigations, incident reports, medication errors.
  • Establishes a budget for the Nursing and Education Departments and monitors the budget to assure operations are within budgetary requirement and care is delivered in a cost effective manner while maintaining adherence to standards of best practice.
  • Works in close collaboration with other partners to ensure continuity of care from neighborhood to school, and promotes the cooperation and teamwork of neighborhood clinical staff to work in the provision of care as needed.
  • Attends state committees as required and other planning  meetings as needed
  • Conducts investigations as deemed appropriate in accordance with nursing practice standards and state Department of Health requirements for abuse and neglect reporting. 
  • Assist in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
  • Monitors per diem scheduling requirements and makes adjustments as necessary to insure patient care standards are maintained.
  • Works collaboratively with Physicians, Rehabilitation Therapists, Creative Arts and other members of the interdisciplinary Neighborhood Team members to develop and review and policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in survey readiness program.
  • Conducts regular medication pass audits and documentation audits, provides data on compliance to audit requirements and establishes a systematic and regular program to improve performance in collaboration with the Nurse Managers.
  • Conducts regular purposeful rounds with clinical team members  to allow opportunity for observations of the Neighborhood and for interaction with staff, residents and families.
  • Works collaboratively with other Children’s Center personnel to provide quality care to the residents.  
  • Develop, maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions for areas of responsibility.
  • Evaluates processes on an ongoing basis and effectively recommends changes as necessary/required to the COO concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
  • Develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
  • Develop, implement and maintain an ongoing performance improvement program for the nursing service department.

Qualifications
Education Requirements:

  • Master’s degree required or significant relevant experience
  • NYS RN License
  • BCLS and PALS certification
  • Certification as Nurse Administrator, from the American Nurses Association Preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in nursing leadership with demonstrated knowledge in Pediatrics.  Prior experience in a long term care facility in a management position preferred. 
  • Experienced with Pediatrics and LTC highly recommended
  • Ability to work effectively in a unionized environment.
  • Expertise in long term care rules and regulations, survey requirements, MDS and ability to perform detailed accurate investigations.

Employee Requirements:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.
  • Will be subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
