Pathologists’ Assistant (Certified)
Boston, MA | Full-Time, On-Site
Salary: $85,000 – $120,000 annually (based on experience)
We are seeking a Certified Pathologists’ Assistant (PA-ASCP) to join a leading hospital-based Pathology Laboratory in the Boston area. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional who values precision, teamwork, and contributing to high-quality diagnostic care.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of a Pathologist or Managing Pathologists’ Assistant, you’ll perform accessioning, preparation, and dissection of human surgical and postmortem specimens. You’ll also provide essential technical and logistical support to pathologists, residents, and laboratory teams—ensuring smooth daily operations, accuracy, and compliance with all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities

Perform gross examination, description, and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, including complex resections.

Assist in frozen section preparation, tissue processing, and gross photography.

Support autopsy services, including external and internal examination, organ dissection, and specimen collection.

Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and infection control of surgical pathology and autopsy suites.

Manage laboratory inventory, equipment maintenance, and quality control documentation.

Collaborate with the Decedent Affairs Office to ensure accurate documentation and respectful handling of deceased patients.

Participate in staff training and mentoring for grossing technicians and Pathologists’ Assistant students.
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.

PA (ASCP) certification required (or eligibility within 6 months of hire).

1–2 years of experience preferred; new graduates are encouraged to apply.

Strong understanding of human anatomy, pathology grossing techniques, and laboratory safety.

Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.

Experience with EMR and LIS systems preferred.
