Lead Medical Technologist – Blood Bank
Full Time | Salary: $60,000–$85,000 + Comprehensive Benefits

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Lead Medical Technologist to join its Blood Bank team. This role provides technical leadership, ensures quality and regulatory compliance, and supports daily operations within a high-volume, patient-centered laboratory environment.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Blood Bank Supervisor, the Lead Medical Technologist provides technical and quality leadership for the Blood Bank Laboratory. This role includes performing routine and specialized testing, overseeing quality control, supporting regulatory readiness, training staff, and maintaining efficient and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities

Perform routine and specialty bench testing with accuracy and adherence to standards

Review and evaluate daily and periodic Quality Control procedures

Oversee instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and CAP survey coordination

Support the creation, validation, and review of procedures, SOPs, and workflow updates

Conduct Meditech validations, prepare for planned system downtimes, and ensure accurate data entry

Monitor transfusion activity at client sites for regulatory compliance; may perform site visits

Ensure adequate blood product inventory and identify opportunities to reduce wastage

Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives and hospital-wide performance improvement

Coordinate and oversee staff scheduling, training, competency assessments, and proficiency testing

Track and analyze quality metrics, turnaround times, and reporting requirements

Assist with regulatory preparation for AABB, CAP, CLIA, DPH, OSHA, and other inspections

Maintain knowledge of current standards, best practices, and regulatory changes
Required Education & Experience
-
Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or related science
-
3+ years of full-time experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist
-
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related science (or completion within 6 months)

6+ years of experience in an accredited blood center or transfusion service

ASCP certification or equivalent preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Strong understanding of complex laboratory and blood bank procedures

Excellent communication skills to convey accurate laboratory data

Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, biohazards, and regulatory requirements
