Job Description

Infection Control Preventionist / Registered Nurse
Salary Range: $115,000 to $130,000 plus generous benefits
Location: Upper Manhattan, NYC

Position Summary
We are seeking a passionate Infection Preventionist to join a respected long-term care facility in Upper Manhattan, playing a key role in ensuring regulatory compliance, advancing infection control initiatives, and elevating nursing competencies. This position blends infection prevention leadership, clinical education, and performance improvement, working closely with the DON, ADON, and interdisciplinary teams.

The Infection Preventionist will oversee the facility’s infection control program, including surveillance, outbreak management, reporting, immunizations, and policy development, while also supporting staff education and orientation. This is a highly visible role with a direct impact on patient safety, quality of care, and overall regulatory readiness.


Responsibilities
Schedule/Shift:

  • Full-Time, Permanent Role in a Long-Term Care Setting
  • Monday through Friday, Business Hours

Key Duties:

  • Lead and oversee the facility’s infection control program, including surveillance, outbreak response, reporting, immunizations, and policy management
  • Partner with the DON and leadership to ensure timely reporting to the Department of Health and maintain full regulatory compliance (DOH, JCAHO)
  • Facilitate Infection Control Committee meetings and present infection control and antibiotic stewardship updates at QAPI
  • Coordinate and deliver clinical education and orientation programs for nursing staff, while supporting ongoing learning across disciplines
  • Identify and address skill gaps, support performance improvement initiatives, and serve as a key resource for staff development
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement by proactively addressing risks and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams

Requirements
Education
•             BSN required; Master’s in Education or Healthcare preferred.
Licenses and Certifications

  • Active Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Completion of specialized training in Infection Prevention & Control.
  • BCLS Certification required.
  • APIC Certification preferred (or equivalent education/experience combination).

Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing educational programs, including curriculum development (preferably in long-term care).
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience writing policies, procedures, and analytic reports.
  • Broad understanding of training methodologies and adult learning principles.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and comfort with data analysis.
  • Familiarity with performance improvement frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of clinical geriatric issues.
