Job Description

RCM Healthcare is hiring a full time Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to provide services to students in Alameda, CA

Hourly Rate: $90.00 – $95.00 per hour (W2 Contract, based on experience)

Location: California
Remote / Onsite: Hybrid – Travel to school sites required; remote services may be provided as appropriate

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) provides direct and consultative services to students from preschool through high school who are integrated into mainstream educational settings. Services are delivered in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and may include direct student support, collaboration with educational teams, family guidance, staff training, and program evaluation. This role supports student success by promoting access to communication, learning, and educational opportunities through evidence-based practices and specialized instruction.

Responsibilities

Key Duties

  • Provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing differences in accordance with IEP goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with parents, school district personnel, audiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success.
  • Attend and participate in IEP and IFSP meetings, providing progress updates and recommendations.
  • Monitor the use and effectiveness of hearing aids, cochlear implants, HAT systems, and other assistive technologies.
  • Prepare quarterly progress reports, evaluations, documentation, training materials, and other required records.
  • Provide staff training and educational workshops related to hearing levels, accommodations, and student needs.
  • Support teletherapy services when appropriate and maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Document services, student progress, and outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in community outreach, professional presentations, and ongoing professional development activities.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Education

  • Required: Master’s Degree in Deaf Education or a related field
  • Preferred: Focus in Listening and Spoken Language

Licenses & Certifications

  • Required: Valid California Education Specialist Credential in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
  • Required: Teacher of the Deaf certification
  • Preferred: Alexander Graham Bell Academy certification as a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT or LSLS Cert. AVEd) or fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Required: Valid California Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • Required: Ability to pass a background check, including California Fingerprint Clearance requirements

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of public-school systems, special education services, and IEP/IFSP processes.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with iPads, assistive technology, and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary educational environments.
  • Strong report-writing, data collection, and documentation skills utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Knowledge of child development and developmental milestones from birth through age 21.
  • Experience with aural rehabilitation and bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred.
