Job Description
Special Education Teacher / Cross Categorical Program
Hourly rate: up to $55 per hour
Location: Highland, Michigan
Position: Onsite – School Setting
Position Summary
As a Special Education Teacher / Cross Categorical Program, with grades K-5, you will provide specialized instruction and academic support to 6-7 students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher will manage an assigned special education caseload, provide services in resource and general education settings, and collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and school staff to support student success. The role requires strong organization, communication, documentation, and knowledge of special education procedures and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities

Key Duties
- Manage an assigned caseload of special education students, including IEPs, REEDs, and MDRs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs while providing academic support in resource room and general education settings.
- Measure student skills and progress using appropriate assessment and testing instruments and maintain accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and school staff regarding accommodations, testing, discipline, and delivery of appropriate special education services.
- Participate in Child Find activities and Special Education PLCs and complete all required special education reports and documentation.
- Maintain accurate digital and/or paper files for special education students.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree or appropriate degree required for Michigan special education teacher certification.
- Preferred: Experience working with students with disabilities in a school or educational setting.
Licenses & Certifications
- Required: Valid Michigan Special Education teaching certification.
- Additional certifications: None specified.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of special education procedures, IEP processes, and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of and aptitude for student information systems and software related to special education.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and other school staff.
