Job Description

ASL Educational Interpreter

Location: Desert Sands area, CA

Pay & Schedule:

  • Pay Range: $40 – $60 per hour (based on experience & certification)
  • Schedule: School-day hours, Monday–Friday, following the academic calendar (full-time and part-time opportunities available)
  • No evenings, weekends, or holidays — steady school-year schedule with built-in breaks.

About the Role:

RCM Healthcare Services is hiring ASL Educational Interpreters to join the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Program in the Desert Sands area. In this role, you’ll work directly with high school students, ensuring they have full access to classroom instruction, peers, and school activities through American Sign Language.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide real-time ASL interpretation for instruction, group work, and school events
  • Support communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, teachers, and peers
  • Promote student participation in both academic and social settings
  • Collaborate with teachers and service providers to meet IEP goals
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural competency

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience using sign language
  • Completion of two (2) years of higher education study OR an Associate’s degree or higher
  • Bachelor’s degree in an educationally related field preferred

Certification — must meet one of the following paths:

  • Option 1: Hold a current Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification

OR

  • Option 2: If not RID-certified, you must show all of the following:
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA): score of 4.0 or higher
  • Educational Sign Skills Evaluation – Interpreter/Receptive (ESSE-I/R): passing score
  • National Association of the Deaf / American Consortium of Certified Interpreters (NAD/ACCI): certification

Required Documents:

  • Copy of transcript (Associate’s or higher degree)
  • Proof of certification (RID OR all three equivalencies)
  • Resume
