Job Description

Senior Director, Coding Operations
Salary Range: $180,000 – $200,000 per year
Location: Remote (U.S.-based)

Position Summary
A rapidly growing healthcare organization specializing in payment integrity and clinical review services is seeking a Senior Director of Coding Operations to lead and scale a high-performing coding division. This leadership role oversees a large, multi-layered team of certified coders across in-house, offshore, and vendor resources.
This individual will drive operational excellence across coding production, quality, and compliance while supporting continued growth in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in inpatient coding, clinical validation, and DRG auditing, along with a proven ability to lead teams and optimize processes.
Responsibilities
Schedule / Shift

  • Shift details: Monday – Friday
  • Hours per week: 40

Key Duties

  • Lead daily operations of the coding department, including staffing, productivity, quality, and workflow management
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics to ensure coding accuracy, compliance, and turnaround times
  • Drive process improvements and operational efficiencies in a high-growth environment
  • Oversee onboarding, training, and development of coding leadership and staff
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for complex coding and clinical validation scenarios
  • Partner cross-functionally with IT, operations, and client services teams
  • Present performance, quality, and compliance reporting to executive leadership
  • Support new client implementations and participate in business development efforts

Requirements
Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: Advanced degree

Licenses & Certifications

  • Required: CCS, CIC, or equivalent coding certification OR Registered Nurse with coding certification

Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in inpatient coding and clinical validation within a payment integrity environment
  • Strong leadership experience managing large, multi-level coding teams (including vendor/offshore models preferred)
  • Deep knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, DRG validation, CMS guidelines, and Coding Clinic
  • Proven ability to drive process optimization and meet operational targets
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
